CD release show for “Sugar Head Pie”

The Goondas are halfway through their March residency at the 501 Club. I was hoping to check out their set, but an impending early morning cut my night short. I did get to take a few quick shots of Hastings 3000 (Joe Hastings of FuKn), who opened.

These handsome fellas put on a great show, despite having to play a shorter set due to broken guitar strings. I can’t wait to see them again. And hey, look! How Was The Show declared one of my photographs from the CD release show the Photo Of The Week.

Hey! Look! It’s a photo of Wilco! I took this photo with my pocket-digi from the balcony at the DECC. A friend and I drove up to Duluth to see these guys a few weeks ago and it. was. EPIC. :) We listened to good tunes, stopped at a pawn shop, explored D-Town, hit up The Electric Fetus and Pizza LucĂ©, had dinner at the revolving restaurant (where, by the way, the sun began to set as we sat down to eat which made for some lovely vistas throughout our meal), and, of course, saw Wilco at the DECC.

The Avett Brothers played First Ave and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to in a good long while. The boys gave a joyful and exuberant performance that I found delightful.

(I wasn’t going to bring my camera out with me but decided at the last minute that I might regret not having it, and boy am I glad there was no policy prohibiting photos this night. This is essentially a collection of snapshots; I stood in the same spot for the duration of the show and didn’t have to do much to get these shots.)

Updated to add: Eric Bass posted a few videos from the show on his blog.

Setlist: And It Spread, Shame, Slight Figure of Speech, Travelin’ Song, Tear Down the House, Pretty Girl from Annapolis, Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise, Roll In My Sweet Baby’s Arms, January Wedding, The Perfect Space, I Killed Sally’s Lover, November Blue, Kick Drum Heart, Laundry Room, Will You Return, Where Have All the Average People Gone, In the Curve, Backwards With Time, Go To Sleep, Matrimony

Claps!

Anders Ponders AKA Anders Mattson and his lovely band played a fantastic set at Sauce last night, despite having troubles with their keyboard. According to their MySpace page, their next show is at Nick and Eddie’s on March 12. Be there.

BruteHeart opened at Sauce Spirits and Soundbar last night.

Bedroom Magic played at the Turf Club for “More Cowbell: Are You Ready For The Country…” with DJ Darlin’ Nikki, Prairie Sons, Comedian John Schreiner, Red Daughters, and Lasco Stroud.

These dudes have come a long way since I last saw them play at the Nomad (all the way back in 2008? whoa.). Their next show is at the 331 Club in April. Don’t miss it.
