I’m still going through all the photographs I took last night (close to 1000!) but I wanted to get something from the show up today. These are unedited shots of the concert, backstage, and the crowd. They’re in no particular order and the movie is set to “I Know.” (You could so totally watch this in the full screen size. You know, if you wanted to.)
I got an email from Sean (Twinkie Jiggles) a few days ago inviting me to shoot the Heiruspecs Scholarship Fund Concert. You can see the whole set on Flickr. Here are a few of my favorites of the rehearsal with Lucy Michelle and Adam Levy:
Alexa Jones shot a rehearsal earlier in the week; you can see her photos here.
This show was absolutely incredible. Alan Sparhawk, drummer Eric Pollard, and bassist Steve Garrington were full of energy and I was astounded by their exuberance.
The Triple Rock has new LED lights illuminating the stage which are, somehow, worse than the lights they had before. Man oh man, it made for some tricky shooting. I’m looking forward to getting in there again soon to figure out the best way to shoot in that lighting situation!
This was my second time seeing Sondre Lerche perform at the always beautiful and recently renovated Varsity Theater in Dinkytown.
My favorite moment of the show came during the encore. Sondre eased us into his song “Modern Nature,” assuming that the audience would sing the parts originally sung by Lillian Samdal. And we did! Or at least we did until halfway through the song when the sweet voices filling the Varsity Theater trailed off. A bemused Lerche consoled the audience by noting mid-song that the part we couldn’t seem to remember wasn’t nearly as “catchy” as the rest of it.
I met Joel on December 20th, 2009 in a parking lot at 7 Corners. I was struggling with a faulty pay box and awkwardly asked him for a dollar. Fast-forward to a few days later, when I was at David’s Christmas Day gathering and who should walk in but Joel, the Swedish fiddle player. From that day on, I ran into this lovely man a few times a week.
Better writers have said it in a way I never could but Joel really did touch the lives of everyone he met while here in Minneapolis. Here are a few photos from his grand send off.
